Super Loads May Impact Traffic

Four super loads, scheduled to be delivered to Newport News Shipbuilding in late April to mid-May, could affect traffic.

The equipment will enter Newport News from Hampton on Mercury Boulevard. The movement will require temporary lane closures on Mercury Boulevard, eastbound and westbound from Jefferson Avenue to River Road; and on Warwick Boulevard northbound and southbound at the Mercury overpass; and River Road northbound and southbound from Mercury Boulevard to the entrance to the North Yard.

Six move dates are scheduled; however, only four will be used. The loads will be delivered between 12:30 and 3 p.m. on each date.

The scheduled dates are:

  • April 29, 2019
  • May 1 or May 2, 2019
  • May 13, 2019
  • May 15 or May 16, 2019
