Product Price List
The following products are sold at the Recovery Operations Center. Products are sold in multiples of cubic yards but a half cubic yard can be purchased for half the listed price. A cubic yard will fill a full size pickup truck. No products are sold bagged.
Our compost is made from leaves and pine needles collected through the city's annual leaf collection program. Samples are tested quarterly by the agricultural laboratories at Penn State and, based on the tests, it is certified by the U.S. Composting Council..
Compost is useful as a soil amendment and can be added by top dressing the lawn or garden with 1" - 2" of product or by tilling into the soil (up to 4"). When tilled in, compost improves drainage in clay soils and increases moisture retention in sandy soil.
Our compost is sold in two grades, screened and unscreened. Screening removes more unwanted materials and produces a richer and more visually appealing product.
Our mulch is made from brush, limbs and logs collected through the city's Bulk Waste Program. Although most frequently used to enhance the appearance of flower beds, mulching also decreases moisture loss from evaporation and helps to inhibit weed growth. It is used throughout the city on highway medians and roadside plantings to surround trees and shrubs.
Mulch fines are a byproduct of the grinding process. These are very finely ground wood particles that sift out when wood goes through the grinder. These are very fine in size and give a smooth uniform appearance when spread out. Mulch fines are generally used for gardens and flower beds requiring a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Because this is a byproduct, its availability is limited..
This is a very rough mulch grind which is generally less aesthetically pleasing than out regular mulch. It can be used for road beds and to supplement large mulch beds prior to topping with our other more visually appealing products.
Leaf mulch consists of leaves that have been ground but have not been put into composting piles or mechanically turned and therefore has not decomposed into compost. It can be used as a cover in beds and as it breaks down, it will provide nutrients to the soil.
Effective June 20, 2017. Prices include Virginia state sales tax. Products are normally sold in multiples of cubic yards but a half cubic yard can be purchased for half the listed price.
