Festivals and Special Events
The Special Events section plans, manages, and promotes citywide festivals and special events held in the City of Newport News. Individuals, community groups, and businesses can be part of these events as vendors, exhibitors, entertainers, and corporate sponsors.

Sunday, March 4, 2018; 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
One City, One Celebration- Victory Landing Park

Cheer on the runners as they finish the Nautical Mile, the Maritime 8K, and the One City Marathon. Free admission, free parking. Food and beverage vendors ($).

Saturday, May 5, 2018; 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

28th Newport News Children's Festival of Friends- Newport News Park
Kids ages 2 -12 will enjoy over 100 free hands-on activities, costumed characters, and free children’s rides. Food vendors ($) on site. $5.00 per car parking fee, all activities are free.  See here for complete information about the 2018 Newport News Children's Festival of Friends.

Saturday May 19, 2018; 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
World Arts Celebration- City Center at Oyster Point
The World Arts Celebration scheduled for Saturday, May 19 has been cancelled due to the inclement weather. The event will be rescheduled (rescheduled date to be announced).  THE WAILERS WILL BE PERFORMING FOR FREE on Saturday, May 19 at 7 PM at ! Limited space is available.  Enjoy entertainment, food & merchandise vendors ($), and exhibits showcasing cultures from around the world.  Free admission, free parking.  See here for complete information about the 2018 World Arts Celebration.

King-Lincoln Park Day- King Lincoln Park

Summer Celebration Wine Festival- Lee Hall Mansion
Wine tastings and sales from Virginia wineries, music, food vendors, and craft vendors. Tickets sold in advance and at the gate.

Saturday, June 23, 2018; 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Southeast Community Celebration Concert- King Lincoln Park
Live Music by Top5 DC and a free children’s activity. Food vendor ($) on site. Free admission, free parking.  

Wednesday, July 4, 2018; 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
4th of July Stars in the Sky- Victory Landing Park
The Virginia Peninsula's biggest July 4th event features live music, food vendors ($), free children's rides, and fireworks over the James River.  Free admission, free parking.  See here for complete information about the 2018 4th of July Stars in the Sky. 

October 6 & 7, 2018; 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
45th Newport News Fall Festival- Newport News Park
The festival features over 150 vendors, traditional crafts and trades, artists, entertainment, food & beverage vendors ($), and children's activities.  $5.00 per car parking fee.  Applications for the Juried & Marketplace Area (handmade crafts & art), Heritage Area (traditional craft & trade displays and demonstrations), and Country Store Area ("farmers market" items including canned goods and fresh produce) are due April 2, 2018 at 11:59 PM.

Friday, October 19, 2018; 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
City Center Oyster Roast- City Center at Oyster Point
A festival of oysters and other Chesapeake Bay seafood favorites with live music and free children's activities. Free admission, free parking. Food and beverages ($). 

Thursday, November 22, 2018 through Tuesday, January 1, 2019; 5:30 PM- 10:00 PM each night
Celebration in Lights- Newport News Park
Drive through two miles of holiday light displays. $12.00 per car, $60.00 per bus.

Hollydazzle - City Center at Oyster Point
TBA.  Free admission, free parking. 

City Center at Oyster Point Special Events Application:

Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism manages the scheduling of events at City Center at Oyster Point. If you would like have an event at City Center (wedding, charity event, etc.), please call 757-926-1400 and speak to the Special Event staff. The City Center event application is available here. See here for the City Center Wedding Application. The submission of an application DOES NOT reserve a date and DOES NOT mean approval. Special Events staff will review all applications after speaking with the applicants.

Nonprofit and community groups can apply to be exhibitors at Newport News Special Events by calling 757-926-1400. Check this page for updates on events that accept nonprofit and community group exhibitors.  Special Interest Groups (including political groups)  should see the Special Interest Group Festival Space Application, Guidelines & Agreement.

Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available for all events. Sponsorship rates are based on benefits requested by each sponsor, and benefits can be customized to meet individual sponsor needs.
