Festivals and Special Events
The Special Events section plans, manages, and promotes citywide festivals and special events held in the City of Newport News. Individuals, community groups, and businesses can be part of these events as vendors, exhibitors, entertainers, and corporate sponsors.

2018 Festivals & Special Events

Thursday, November 22, 2018 through Tuesday, January 1, 2019; 5:30 PM- 10:00 PM each night
Celebration in Lights- Newport News Park
Drive through two miles of holiday light displays. $12.00 per car, $60.00 per bus.  See here for Celebration in Lights information.  

Saturday, December 1, 2018 - Tuesday, December 25, 2018; 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM
BayPort Credit Union 25 Nights of Northern Lights- City Center at Oyster Point
City Center at Oyster Point will transform into the North Pole with a new, state-of-the-art, synchronized music and light show on each of the 25 nights. There will be  three themed North Pole Nights on December 1, 8 and 15 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with entertainment, free activities and food vendors.  See here for complete information about the BayPort Credit Union 25 Nights of Northern Lights.

To receive a Food Vending Package via U.S. Mail, please send your mailing address via email. Please specify "Food Vendor Mailing List" in the subject line.


Nonprofit and community groups can apply to be exhibitors at Newport News Special Events by calling 757-926-1400. Check this page for updates on events that accept nonprofit and community group exhibitors.  Special Interest Groups (including political groups)  should see the Special Interest Group Festival Space Application, Guidelines & Agreement.

Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available for all events. Sponsorship rates are based on benefits requested by each sponsor, and benefits can be customized to meet individual sponsor needs. In-kind (trade of services) contributions may be accepted in combination with / in place of cash contributions. Please contact Renee Popernack at 757-926-1400 or via email for additional information.
