Newport News Crime Line – Week of May 14th, 2018


I’m MPO Brandon Maynard.  The Newport News Police Department needs your help to solve a recent homicide.

On May 10th, 2018 at 2:22 AM, Newport News Communications received a call of a shooting in the area of 27th Street and Madison Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle that had crashed and two subjects suffering from gunshot wounds. The first victim was identified as a 23 year-old Newport News man, and the second victim was identified as 20 year-old Tiara Jefferson of Hampton. Ms. Jefferson’s 21 month-old daughter was also with them, and was not injured.

It was reported that the victims were driving down the 700 block of 27th Street when they were shot by an unknown subject. All three were transported to a local hospital. The male’s injuries were said to be non-life threatening and Ms. Jefferson was transported with life threatening injuries. Ms. Jefferson’s daughter was also transported for evaluation. It was also revealed that Ms. Jefferson was pregnant. After arriving at the local hospital, Ms. Jefferson succumbed to the injuries which she sustained from the shooting. There is no suspect information at this time and the investigation remains ongoing
