Newport News Crime Line – Week of May 15, 2017


Robberies


I’m Assistant Public Information Officer, MPO Brandon Maynard.  The Newport News Police need your help to solve two recent business robberies.

On May 15th, 2017, at approximately 9:27 PM, Newport News Police were dispatched to the Super China located at t 11710 Jefferson Avenue in reference to a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, a 25 year-old Newport News man who advised the business was robbed. The victim stated the suspect who had the firearm was wearing a glove. The two offenders took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business. The two male offenders entered the business through the front door and approached the front counter where the victim was located. One of the offenders demanded cash from the victim and pointed a firearm at him. The victim took the money from the drawers and gave it to the suspects.

The first suspect was described as a black male wearing a grey hoodie, dark sweatpants, black shoes, face covered with scarf, watch on his left hand, and in possession of a silver firearm. The second suspect was described as a black male wearing a black hoodie, dark shorts, black flip flops, and dark socks. There were no reported injuries from this robbery.

This robbery appears to be related to a recent robbery at the Cho’s Cleaners located at 11710 Jefferson Avenue Suite C, back on May 9th, 2017 at 4:45 PM.

On May 9th, 2017 at 4:57 PM, Newport News Police responded to Cho`s Cleaners located at 11710 Jefferson Avenue in reference to a business robbery. Officers met the owner, a 56 year-old Yorktown woman who advised that two unknown black males wearing dark blue jeans and black hoodies entered the establishment through the front door and pointed handguns at her demanding cash. After taking money, both suspects robbed a 62 year-old Newport News man, a customer inside the store, taking cash. The suspects were described as both being young, black males, and approximately 15-20 years of age. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business and the customer inside.

The suspects were both described as being 5’05-5’08 and very slender. Suspect # 1 was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, dark blue jeans, and a black doo-rag. Suspect #2 was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with gray sleeves and the hood up, dark blue jeans, and a black doo-rag. Suspect #2 was also wearing gloves. Both suspects had their faces covered and were armed with black firearms. After the robbery, the suspects fled south on Jefferson Avenue. There were no reported injuries from this robbery.
