Newport News Crime Line – Week of February 6, 2017

Robbery

I’m Assistant Public Information Officer, MPO Brandon Maynard.  Newport News Police need your help to solve a recent series of business robberies.

On Saturday, February 4th, 2017, at approximately 2:12 AM, Newport News Police were dispatched to the Jameson Inn & Suites located at 21 Old Oyster Point Road in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the night clerk, who informed officers that he had been robbed by a lone white male while working at the front desk.

The clerk stated he was in the back room and when he came back out to the front desk there was a white male standing there with his face wrapped in a black t-shirt, wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants, and black gloves. The suspect demanded money from the clerk and only implied that he had a gun. The clerk pulled the register drawer and placed it on the counter. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the area on foot towards the Interstate 64.

On February 7th, 2017 at approximately 4:07 AM, Newport News Police were dispatched to the Days Inn located in the 11800 Block of Fishing Point Drive in reference to a robbery. A white male entered the business wearing a black mask and black clothing holding a knife demanded money from clerk. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of money from the drawer and the suspect fled the scene towards Jefferson Avenue.

NOTE: The individual involved in these robberies matches the description of the suspect in the Candlewood Suites robbery that occurred in York County on January 31st, 2017 and the Newport News Days Inn robbery on February 1st, 2017.
