Newport News Crime Line – Week of July 10th, 2017


I’m Assistant Public Information Officer, MPO Brandon Maynard. The Newport News Police need your help to solve a recent homicide.

On April 22, 2017, at 5:51 PM, police responded to calls of a shooting in the area of 661 Ridley Circle. Upon arrival, officers found a black male, later identified as Charles Carroll, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Mr. Carroll was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center by medics and was later pronounced deceased at 7:42 PM. We need your help to solve his murder and bring the guilty to justice.

During the shooting an unknown black male wearing a black shirt was seen running from Ridley Circle toward 16th Street. The man was tall, lanky with thin hair wearing a black shirt and camouflage pants. Suspected marijuana and cocaine were found at the scene of the shooting, and an empty holster on the victim’s waist. A handgun the family stated Mr. Carroll carried for protection has not been found
