Parents participating in home visiting services will learn more about child development, child health and nutrition, and parenting practices. They will also receive emotional support and guidance, connections to community resources, and help with transportation.
The Housing Broker Team program is designed to prevent homelessness before it happens, after it happens, and to keep homelessness from re-occurring.

Youth Development is working together to provide opportunities for youth to connect with positive activities with caring adults in and out of school.
Intentional opportunities and occasions to educate Newport News residents about ways to support youth and encourage citizens to be involved in their neighborhoods and in the community. Neighborhood Leadership Institutes are held all during the year to support interaction and connections between youth and adults, neighbors, businesses, city officials, and the City’s residents. Neighborhood Leadership Institutes focus on specific interests and concerns of its participants and are tailored to meet the needs of the group. The Institutes are offered in convenient locations throughout the City.
