Leadership Development Academy

The City of Newport News is committed to the development of leaders. We are pleased to be able to offer to employees who desire leadership development in a meaningful way participation in the Leadership Development Academy (LDA).

Is LDA Right for you?

If you are willing to commit to a personal and professional development program that will challenge you, encourage you and inspire you, then yes LDA is right for you!

What can I expect?

Employees are taken through a 12 month learning journey, exposed to various leadership topics presented by highly qualified practitioners.

How do I apply?

Admission into the LDA program is a competitive process with those selected having demonstrated a prior commitment to learning and leadership.

Applications are now being accepted for the FY 17 LDA class.
For consideration in the FY 17 Academy, employees must submit their online enrollment form no later than close of business on Monday, July 25, 2016.

  • Emotional Intelligence Values and Ethics
  • Organizational Culture Conflict Management
  • Building Trust Setting Goals
Leadership Development Academy II

Courses Include:

  • Ethics & Accountability Coaching
  • Performance Management Communication
  • Financial Management Project Management

*Participants in the LDA II program will be expected to participate in a 6 month practicum project
