Walkers Dam Project Update

The most up-to-date information on the Walkers Dam construction project

Phase II - Walkers Dam Construction Project

Throughout the summer, T.A. Sheets Mechanical (the Contractor) has been driving steel sheet piling for the new dam wall, left and right abutments (land contacts for the dam), boat lock, and for a new bulkhead near the Chickahominy Pump Station. Contractor has also been placing concrete for the dam wall. They continue to drive steel H-Piles for the new support system and install framing/bracing members connected to these piles. In addition, they have continued with demolition of parts of the old dam structure. The Contractor was affected by the rains and high river levels associated with Hurricane Irene and the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. Since those storm events, the Contractor made adjustments to their schedule while the main work activities mentioned above have continued. Over the next several months the construction of the new boat lock and fish passage structures inside the sheet pile cofferdams will begin. The current construction schedule indicates a late summer/early fall 2012 completion.
