Reservoirs and Drought

Recent rainfall between Richmond and Williamsburg has increased flow in the Chickahominy River allowing us to pump water into our reservoirs. Now that we’re able to add water to the reservoirs, our supply is holding at about 72%. This is good news as many of us are preparing to revitalize and reseed our lawns in September and October. However, drought conditions still exist and if you want to put an inch of water down on an 8,000 square foot yard, you will use 5,000 gallons of water. You may need to reseed a little later this year in the hope that the drought will break within the next 30 to 60 days. Be sure to check out our lawn maintenance and fall planting tips. One of our main responsibilities, as a drinking water provider, is to make sure there is an adequate supply, or as some would say, enough water to meet the customer demand. The main source of our drinking water is the Chickahominy River and we own and operate five reservoirs. Check our most current reservoir level Viewing a PDF requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.
