Rates and Fees - Waterworks
Water rate as of July 1, 2009: Water for residential, commercial and industrial purposes shall be metered and charged for every one hundred cubic feet (HCF) used. Single-metered Residential Low Usage Lifeline rate is $2.78 for the first 6 HCF used. All other usage will be charged a rate of $3.04 Per HCF consumed.
A Late Payment Fee of 1.5% per month or three dollars ($3.00), whichever is greater, shall be assessed to the billing if not paid by the due date. If you elect to pay through designated banking agencies, payment receipt could be delayed up to ten (10) days.
An Account Fee of $20.00 shall be paid by each requestor for water service, whether establishing a new account or transferring an existing account. This charge is made to defray the cost incurred in turning water on or off, or by other billing procedures involved in establishing a new account.
Each New Account will be charged an initial Advance Fee based upon the size of the meter serving the customer. This fee remains with the customers account upon transferring water service to a new address. This fee is applied to the customer's final bill when termination of the water service account occurs.
Each customer bill shall include a Service Charge based upon the size of the meter serving the customer not on the amount of water consumed. This fixed fee is for expenses associated with the periodic billing procedures and maintaining distribution service facilities.
Customers in Newport News and Hampton will be charged a Sewer Maintenance Charge and a Solid Waste Service Fee. These fees are determined by each City's Department of Public Works. Waterworks serves only as an agent to bill, collect and forward these receipts to the respective jurisdiction.
A Summer Consumption Rate will only be charged to customers whose summer usage (May through October) exceeds their average usage for the previous winter (November through April). The surcharge is $0.61 per hundred cubic feet and will be added to the current water rates when the amount of the water used is over the winter consumption average.
