Direct Debit Service is a safe, free, convenient way to have your water bill paid directly from your checking or savings account. (You cannot use a credit card for Direct Debit.) You can sign up for Direct Debit Service as long as you have an account with a financial institution that processes electronic debits. There's no start-up fee, and there's no charge each time a payment transfer is made.  Please note, when using this payment option, it does not require credit card information.

When you sign up for Direct Debit Service, you will continue to receive your water bill in the mail, just as you do today, with your itemized charges clearly listed. Then, on the posted DUE DATE, the AMOUNT DUE will be deducted from your bank account automatically. For your records, the amount paid will be listed on your monthly bank statement.

You’ll have plenty of time to review your statement before payment is made. And if you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Newport News Waterworks Customer Service, and we will work with you to resolve them promptly.

After you sign up, you're under no obligation to stay on the plan. If you're not satisfied, simply notify us in writing at least ten (10) days before your next bill due date, or go to your online account and update the Direct Debit information in the "Customer Data" section.

Online Direct Debit Service Authorization

If you choose to login to your online account, go to the Customer Data Tab to set up your direct debit service in two easy steps:

1. Scroll down to the Bank Details section and click Update.  Here you will be able to enter your bank routing number, your checking or savings account number, the name of your banking account in the Account Holder field and an Account Description such as Checking or Savings.  There is also a field to re-enter your banking account number just to be sure you have entered it correctly.  Hit the Save button.

1. Scroll down to the Your Automatic Debit Authorization section and click on the Set Up Automatic Debit Here button.  There will be a section for Automatic Debit Authorization for Existing Bank Details already checked for the account description you just set up. Now hit Save and you will be set up for direct debiting.

Be sure to have your financial institution customer information handy as you begin the Debit Authorization process.  Simply login to your online account to complete the Direct Debit Service authorization, or if you prefer you may print an application (PDF 748.0 kb) to be completed by hand, and mail it to:
