How to register to vote in Newport News.

Who is eligible to register to vote?

You are eligible to register to vote if you are:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • At least 18 years of age by the next general election
  • A resident of Virginia

When can I register to vote?

  • You may register to vote year-round.
  • The books close 21 days prior to a general election.

    Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Satellite Office DMV

    Hours of Operation: 
    Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and 
    Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 12 Noon

By mail, pick up a Virginia Voter Registration Application at the following sites:

  • Public libraries
  • Military recruitment offices
  • Public assistance agency offices
  • Post offices
