The Office of Self Insurance is responsible for managing risk and liability, the occupational safety and health programs for city employees and environmental issues affecting the City of Newport News.If you’ve been involved in an accident or incident with a City vehicle, this office's claims adjustors will assist you in resolving the situation as quickly as possible. Our Safety personnel play an active role in protecting the safety and health of City employees. We conduct facility inspections and provide training to employees to ensure the City's compliance with OSHA and state regulations.
The Environmental Management System program for the City is based in our office. The EMS helps keep the City in compliance with EPA and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regulations and is constantly working towards a cleaner environment for the citizens of Newport News.
