| Mission Statement |
The mission of the Solid Waste Division is to provide environmentally responsible collection and disposal of residential waste and to promote clean community programs and policies. |
Regular Collection Schedules - Garbage, Bulk Waste and Recycling |
For those residents served by the 18-gallon bin recycling program, collection is weekly. For those served by the 64-gallon cart recycling program, collection is every other week. To inquire about your collection day, please contact the Public Works Call Center at 757-269-2700. Garbage and Bulk Waste are collected at curbside once each week from single family homes. In most instances garbage and recycling collection are offered on the same day of the week. |
Most townhouses, condominiums and mobile homes that pay a solid waste fee also receive weekly collection of recyclables. Drop-off recycling is available to those that are not accessible for curbside collection. If you need information on collection days for your neighborhood, call the Public Works Call Center (757-269-2700). |
Delays in Collection |
Collection of garbage, bulk wastes and recyclables may be delayed from time to time due to holidays, equipment problems, or seasonal high waste volumes. In these instances, collection will usually take place within the next one to two working days. |
During emergencies and natural disasters, collections may be delayed or temporarily cancelled. This information will be posted on the City's Cable Channel 48. |
Public Works Call Center |
Automated call processing is available by calling 757-269-2700. Personal assistance is available during normal office hours by remaining on the line. |
A Request for Kindness |
Remember solid waste is collected by people, not just trucks. Glass can shatter and cut, medical waste can transmit diseases, and chemicals can burn or blind. Please adopt safe practices and observe the rules as defined in each category. You will continue to receive the best service the Solid Waste Division can provide and our front line professionals will remain safe. |
Eligibility for Service |
