Leaf Collection Schedule 2009-2010

Leaf Collection Schedule

The Street Maintenance Division conducts an annual loose leaf roadside collection, (December to January). Residents are asked to rake leaves to edge of the road during a specific time frame, without blocking traffic or drainage ditches, and crews will pick them up. There will be two collections for each area again this year, with no leaf collection in November.

General Information
Leaves will be collected in the areas indicated on the map during the week shown below. In order to progressively move from one area to the next, each street in the area will be collected only once during the week. It is important that the leaves be placed at the roadside on Monday morning by 7:00 a.m. of the week the area is to be collected so the leaves are not missed. If you miss your first scheduled collection, leaves will not be collected until second/final collection starting January 4th, 2010.

Please Help Us By Following the Rules:
  1. Wait until the week prior to the start of the scheduled collection (November 30th – see schedule) to place leaves at the curb side, this will assist in avoiding blocked drainage.
  2. Leaves should be raked into a pile at the edge of curb and gutter or drainage ditches to avoid blocking storm drainage on city streets. Do not place leaves in the curb and gutter or drainage ditch.
  3. Twigs and branches should not be mixed with the leaves.
  4. City refuse collectors will pick up leaves placed in clear plastic bags on your regular bulk waste collection days – limit of 30 – 39 gallon bags per collection.
  5. Burning leaves is not permitted unless authorized by City Council.
  6. Citizens are encouraged to bag leaves prior/after the scheduled leaf collection service is provided. This will assist with reducing drainage problems.
Notice:
  • There will be no city-wide Spring (April) collection of leaves. All leaves must be in clear plastic bags if collected before or after regular schedule (Dec.-Jan.)
  • Tune in to City Cable Channel 48 for additional leaf collection information. Map and schedule will be provided throughout the 2009-2010 leaf collection season.

Leaf Collection Street Cleaning Leaf collection on curb and gutter streets will be completed by the use of front-end loaders, removing the bulk of leaves but some leaves will remain on the street. Due to the limited schedule for each collection cycle, all cycles will be completed before mechanical sweepers will be assigned to adequately clean the street and curb and gutter.

Area 1: East End and downtown area heading north to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Area 2: J. Clyde Morris Blvd. heading north to Menchville Rd. and east side of the railroad tracks to Denbigh Blvd. Area 3: Menchville Rd. heading north along railroad tracks to Denbigh Blvd., north to city limits.

The Public Works Solid Waste Division will continue to collect leaves placed in clear plastic bags on your normal bulk collection days.
