Security Services Division

The Security Services Division of the Public Works Department provides 24 hour protection at different city facility locations around Newport News.

The Security Services Division is dedicated to providing the employees and patrons of City Buildings and related grounds with Professional Homeland Security and long lasting peace of mind.

The Security Services Division provides 24 hour protection at various locations throughout the city specifically comprising of over 1 million square feet. Each area is equipped with overt and covert surveillance and electronic access systems. Highly trained Security Officers and Special Conservators of the Peace provide a quick response to any threats detected.

Our long term goal is to provide total protection at all city facilities in a manner that far exceeds that of any city nationwide. We plan to accomplish this goal by increasing the number of Security Officers and Special Conservators of the Peace citywide as well as expanding the integrated surveillance system that is monitored live on a daily basis. This will allow a quicker detection of criminal activities and provide for a shorter response time to our citizens request for help.
