No Wikipedia? Try Library resources

Newport News Libraries provide research alternatives during web ‘blackout’

Newport News Public Library patrons have multiple resources for research, including online databases and Text-a-Librarian.

For more information, contact
Newport News, VA 2012 Jan 18

Free online resources are available at the Newport News Public Library System’s website at www.nngov.com/library, and Library patrons also may text or send questions online to trained reference librarians.

Free online databases are available on the Library’s website by clicking on “eResearch” on the left. These databases offer quick, reliable information in easy-to-use formats, much of which is not available elsewhere online. The information is provided by trusted resources and divided into categories such as arts, business information, education, geography and culture, local history, religion, science and more. Visit http://www.nngov.com/library/services/datasub.

The Text-a-Librarian service provides a convenient option for getting information on mobile phone from the reference librarians of the Newport News Public Library System. With Text-a-Librarian, patrons ask questions by sending text messages with their mobile phones and librarians answer on a web-based interface. The service does not display phone numbers and generates an anonymous ID for each patron in order to reference conversation history. Using the service is easy. Patrons text NNPL to 66746 for instructions. Message and data rates may apply. Visit http://www.nngov.com/library/textalibrarianinstructions for more information.

Research questions also may be submitted online for reference librarians at http://www.nngov.com/library/ask.
