CITY TO BREAK GROUND FOR NEW COMMUNITY CENTER

Stoney Run Community Center will open in early 2012

The City of Newport News will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Stoney Run Community Center at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, at 15198 Warwick Boulevard, adjacent the entrance to the Stoney Run Athletic Complex.

The City of Newport News will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Stoney Run Community Center at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 15.  The projected $14.6 million, 50,000 square foot facility will be located at 15198 Warwick Boulevard, adjacent the entrance to the Stoney Run Athletic Complex.

Once completed, the facility will feature an early childhood center with outside play area, teen center, dance room, multi-purpose rooms, basketball courts, walking track, snack bar and administration area. Projected program offerings include weekend teen activity center, instructional classes, such as dance, fitness, art, computer, martial arts, cooking, sewing, cheering, music, nutrition, and personal development. Sports activities will include basketball, field hockey, indoor soccer, volleyball, indoor walking programs, and dancing as well as local, state, and national sports tournaments.

The anticipated opening of the Stoney Run Community Center is Winter/Spring 2012.
