Six weeks of free Harry Potter programs begin Saturday
News media are invited to cover the Harry Potter Kick-off Program, 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, at Grissom Library in Newport News.

Families can enjoy craft and food stations, and kids can compete for prizes for the best Harry Potter costume.
At the craft and food stations, children can make a velveteen bag to hold the Bernie’s Every Flavor Beans that will be provided and decorate a wizard hat. At the food stations, children can make their own potion by mixing various flavors of punch and create a magic wand with long pretzel sticks, white chocolate and sprinkles.
The Kick-Off Program celebrates the arrival of a traveling exhibit, “Harry Potter's World: Renaissance, Science, Magic, and Medicine,” which will be on display in the Library through Oct. 16. The exhibit explores the world of the fictional character Harry Potter and its roots in Renaissance magic, science, and medicine. It was created using materials from the National Library of Medicine. Along with the exhibit, Grissom Library will be hosting other special free programs during the entire six weeks the exhibit will be on display, as well as a trivia contest. Prizes for the trivia contest include Harry Potter books and gift cards from Barnes and Noble Booksellers. All programs will be held at Grissom Library, 366 DeShazor Drive, Newport News, VA 23608, and are free and open to the public.
