Free Workshops for Seniors

Upcoming free workshops for seniors

On Friday, July 22, 2011, 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., the City of Newport News will sponsor a Tax Relief and Exemption workshop for seniors at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center. Sponsored by the Commissioner of the Revenue and Department of Human Services, this workshop will offer important insights into the Elderly Tax Relief Program and other Exemption programs available to residents of Newport News. Please RSVP to (757)-926-6647 no later than July 20, 2011.

On Thursday, July 28, 2011, Newport News will join with AAA to present a free workshop for drivers 65 years of age and older. Keeping the Keys will be held at the Main Street Library from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Learn tips to stay mobile longer. Topics will include Keeping Safety in Sight, Age-Related Vision Problem, Transportation Alternatives, and more.

On Wednesday, August 10, 2011, A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the Main Street Library. During this fall prevention and healthy living workshop, participants will learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, how to set realistic goals to increase activity, and more.
