Paint splashes, fish get makeover at Pearl Bailey Library

Printing at Pearl Bailey Library

A small group of Newport News youths gathered on July 21 in the Pearl Bailey Library meeting room to paint rubber fish and sea stars. The children then pressed the painted fish onto clean, white T-shirts, creating colorful creative new summer wear. The free event was part of the Newport News Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program.

Led by Pearl Bailey Senior Information Services Specialist Sonya Scott, the children and five Library volunteers used rubber fish and fabric paints in yellow, turquoise, red, green, gold, and various shades of blue.

“It was good! I like my blue and green fish!” said Daquawn Henley, age 7, of Newport News.

The Summer Reading Program is supported through funding from the Friends of the Newport News Public Library.
