The Newport News Police Department will recognize officers, civilian Department employees and other City employees for numerous outstanding acts during an awards ceremony at 7:00 P.M. this evening, March 17, 2011. The ceremony will take place at the Scottish Rite Center located at 65 Saunders Road in Newport News.

Among the awards to be presented this year are the George C. Austin, Jr. and William F. Corvello Leadership Awards. Also, one officer will be receiving the Bronze Medal of Valor and four officers will receive Life Saving Medals. In addition the Department’s officer of the year, supervisor of the year, dispatcher of the year and civilian of the year will be honored. The team effort of the year award recipients will also be honored.

A number of police officers, civilian employees, firefighters and a park ranger will be receiving Outstanding Police Performance and Outstanding Contribution to Law Enforcement Awards.

Chief Fox will also recognize the promotions of two Master Police Officers, two Senior Forensic Technicians and a 911 Dispatch Supervisor.
