NATIONAL NIGHT OUT EVENTS

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT EVENTS

2010 Jul 30

On Tuesday, August 3, 2010, the Newport News Police Department will join with the community in celebrating “National Night Out.” The goals of this event are to:

(1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;

(2) generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts;

(3) strengthen neighborhood and police community partnerships; and

(4) send a message to the criminals that neighborhoods and the police are united in fighting crime.

Below is a list of events sponsored by individual Neighborhood Watch groups including times and locations. Newport News Police personnel, including patrol officers, detectives and command staff, will be visiting as many of these events as possible.

Even if neighborhoods are not having a planned event, we encourage everyone to send the message that the community is fighting back against crime and drugs. This can be accomplished by leaving porch lights on to show support and spending time outside visiting with and becoming more familiar with neighbors.

Additional information may be obtained from the Police Department’s Community Programs office at 757-928-4286.
