Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism will celebrate the July 4th holiday with its “4th of July Stars in the Sky” event on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Victory Landing Park (23rd St. at the James River).

At 7:00 p.m., the event begins with free children’s rides (giant slides, moon bounces, obstacle courses) and free balloon sculpting. Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including funnel cakes, seafood, sno cones, and barbecue. The Jimmy Jones Band will perform popular and patriotic selections from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. followed by a spectacular fireworks show choreographed to music at 9:30 p.m. over the James River by the internationally award–winning fireworks company Pyrotecnico.

Admission and parking are free. Directions: Take I-64 to I-664S, take Exit 6 to 26th St., turn left onto Huntington Avenue., turn right onto 23rd St.; free parking available at the Newport News City Hall parking lot and designated non-restricted public parking spaces in the Downtown area.
