Flowers will soon be blooming in the homes of 26 children who attended Grissom Library’s free “Monet’s Garden” program on Wednesday, July 1. This program was part of the Newport News Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program.
Using markers, glue, and pictures of flowers, each child uniquely decorated a clay flower pot. They then brushed globs of decoupage paste over the pots to seal on their artwork.
Senior Information Services Specialist Donna Diamonti filled the flower pots one-by-one with soil, while each child selected a bookmark with a seed packet attached to it and planted the seeds. The finished flower pots were taken home to grow.
The Summer Reading Program continues through July 31 with opportunities for adults, children and teens to win prizes and express themselves creatively with special events and contests. For more information, visit the Library’s website at http://www.nngov.com/library/resources/srp.
