Over 40 online databases available

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. 2009 Jul 08

Library cardholders can now learn foreign languages and engage their children in learning – all for free with new resources available on the Newport News Public Library System’s website.

Mango Languages provides various levels of lessons on 12 languages, including Spanish, German, Italian, French, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Greek and more.  Also included are lessons on English for non-native speakers of various other languages. The online language-learning system is easy to use and teaches actual conversation skills.

Scholastic BookFlix is a new online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. Linking fact and fiction, BookFlix reinforces early reading skills and introduces children to knowledge and exploration.

Both resources are among the more than 40 online databases available from the Library’s website that offer quick, reliable information in easy-to-use formats, much of which is not available elsewhere online.

To access these resources, visit http://www.nngov.com/library/services/datasub, select the database and enter your Library card number.

For more information, please call 757-247-8875 or visit any Newport News Public Library.
