NEWPORT NEWS, Va. 2009 Dec 18
Library cardholders can now learn more foreign languages for free with resources available on the Newport News Public Library System’s website.
In addition to Mango Languages Complete, the Library System now also offers Mango Basic, which is designed to appeal to a beginner in a new language. It allows beginners to learn every-day greetings, gratitude, goodbyes and helpful phrases for free online in a short period of time.
Mango Basic is available in 22 foreign languages including French, German, Farsi, Hebrew, Hindi, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog, and Turkish. The new online resource also contains 14 English as a Second Language (ESL) courses for speakers of French, Russian, Vietnamese, Korean, Spanish, Greek, and more. This program is easy to use, and requires only two to five hours of time to complete.
The Library System continues to provide Mango Complete, which is more time consuming, but provides more in-depth language learning lessons. It remains available in nine foreign languages and three ESL courses.
Mango Languages is among the more than 40 online databases available from the Library’s website that offer quick, reliable information in easy-to-use formats, much of which is not available elsewhere online.
Access these resources at http://www.nngov.com/library/services/datasub, select the database and enter your Newport News Public Library card number.
