NEWPORT NEWS, Va. 2009 Jul 29

What do Newport News residents think of their public Libraries? That’s what the Newport News Public Library System set out to determine with a written survey conducted in fall 2008. The results of this survey are now available on the Library System’s website at http://www.nngov.com/library/surveyfinal

The survey, titled “Are you overdue?”, was available online at the library’s website, in the Libraries and at locations and events throughout Newport News. The survey was completed by 717 respondents. Those who completed the survey could enter a drawing for free books, bookbags and gift certificates from local restaurants.

The survey was designed to solicit opinions and interests from Newport News residents, especially those who do not use the Newport News Public Libraries.

Information gathered from this survey is being used to help the Libraries better serve the residents, including developing a new slogan and logo for the Libraries. Newport News residents are encouraged to give their opinions of a proposed new logo and slogan by attending a focus group on Thursday, July 30. Those who attend will receive a free, new book from the Newport News Barnes & Noble, as well as a discount coupon.

Newport News residents may sign up at http://tinyurl.com/libraryfocusgroup. They will be asked to fill out a short survey and attend a focus group meeting at 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30. The meeting will be in the York Room at Fountain Plaza Two, 700 Town Center Drive, in City Center of Oyster Point, Newport News. The focus group is open to the first 16 people to sign up, but a waiting list is being created for those interested in attending at a later time.

The new books and discount coupons will be given out at the end of the focus group meeting to all participants, and there are no other requirements.
