NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Library patrons in Newport News will have access to the latest information about breast cancer, thanks to a recent donation.

The Peninsula Chapter of the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation donated $600 to the Newport News Public Library System on Sept. 7. The money will be used to purchase informative library materials on breast cancer.

“We feel that everyone needs to be educated on the latest research and developments on breast cancer,” said Sally Taylor, a member and past president of the Peninsula Chapter of the Foundation. “You need to keep up-to-date on wellness.”

The Foundation provided a librarian-created list of suggested materials, and libraries are free to select other materials that present breast cancer information, Taylor said.

“When I was diagnosed, the biggest help for me was friends, the Internet and the library. I used them to find information to help me select a course of treatment with my doctor,” Taylor said.

The Foundation raises money through fashion shows and golf tournaments to help eradicate breast cancer. The Peninsula Chapter also made donations to each of the other library systems on the Virginia Peninsula.
