The Newport News Public Library System offers free events for all ages in October 2014.
Teens create Japanese headbands
Eight members of Pearl Bailey Library’s Anime and Manga Club created their own Hachimaki headbands on Aug. 23, with the guidance of the club organizer, Louis Hubert.
Thousands of books, more given away at event
Free demonstrations, books, school supplies, food, animals and fun drew about 1, 700 people to the STEM Fair/Impact 2014 Family Day on Aug. 23 at the South Morrison Family Education Center.
Summer prize winners announced
Nearly 3,000 adults, children and teens participated in the Newport News Public Library System’s 2014 Summer Reading Program. Adults, teens and children of all ages read books, participated in special programs, and won prizes, June 23-July 31 -- all for free.
Comic workshops for teens in October
Youth ages 12-17 can learn to create their own super hero and write a short storyline in a series of workshops offered in October by Pearl Bailey Library.
