JUVENILE SERVICES EMPLOYEE RECIEVES STATEWIDE AWARD

Ronald Johnson, Juvenile Services Counselor in the City’s Department of Juvenile Services, has been awarded the Meritorious Service Award in the field of residential services by the Virginia Juvenile Justice Association (VJJA). Each year VJJA selects and recognizes professionals who have made extraordinary contributions in the juvenile justice field. Mr. Johnson received the award at VJJA’s Fall Institute held last month.

Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Hampton High School and holds a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina A&T University. He has been employed by the City of Newport News Department of Juvenile Services since 1989, and currently serves as a Juvenile Services Counselor in the department’s Outreach and Electronic Monitoring program. As a Juvenile Services Counselor, Mr. Johnson’s responsibilities include monitoring at-risk juveniles in the community to ensure accountability to the courts via electronic monitoring equipment and random face-to-face visits.
