NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Those aged 55 and older often aren’t aware of the many services and programs available to them in their communities. So Pearl Bailey Library sets out to remedy that each year by giving seniors the opportunity to learn about safety, health, nutrition, food programs, exercise and computer classes and more for free at the Library.

This year’s Senior Day on Sept. 20 attracted more than 27 seniors to the Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for information sessions, blood pressure checks, an opportunity to use a computer – for the first time for several seniors – and a free lunch.
Presenters included Peninsula Institute for Community Health, Newport News Police Department, Peninsula Agency on Aging, Mary Immaculate Hospital, Active Lifestyles Program of the Newport News Parks and Recreation, Riverside PACE, and Senior Navigator.
Pearl Bailey Library, located at 2510 Wickham Ave. in Newport News, is part of the Newport News Public Library System.
The Newport News Public Library System consists of four public libraries, a public law library and a bookmobile. Programs presented by the Library System are free and open to the public.
