Beginning March 9, 2010, regular meetings of the Newport News City Council will begin at 7:00 p.m., instead of 7:30 p.m. The change is being made in an effort to use time more efficiently. Currently, a prefatory meeting is held at 7:00 p.m. at which time proclamations or presentations are made and the regular meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.  This can create as much as a 25 minute wait between a presentation and the scheduled start time of the regular meeting. With the new start time and the elimination of the prefatory meeting, proclamations and presentations will be incorporated into the regular meeting as needed.

Newport News City Council meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month in Council Chambers located at 2400 Washington Avenue. The regular meetings are televised live on Newport News TV, streamed live online at www.nngov.com and available for on demand viewing the day following the Council meeting.
