NEWPORT NEWS “SHOP WITH A COP” EVENT

The annual “FOP Cops and Kids” (formerly known as “Shop with a Cop”) event sponsored by the Newport News Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the Newport News Police Department will take place from 8:00 A.M. until noon on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at the Wal-Mart store located at 12401 Jefferson Avenue.

The annual “FOP Cops and Kids” (formerly known as “Shop with a Cop”) event sponsored by the Newport News Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the Newport News Police Department will take place from 8:00 A.M. until noon on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at the Wal-Mart store located at 12401 Jefferson Avenue.

Law enforcement personnel will accompany fifty less fortunate children as they each enjoy spending $100 for gifts of their choosing. The FOP, whose membership includes current and retired police officers, sheriff’s deputies, personnel from the Newport News City Farm and other law enforcement agencies, is providing the funding for the event. Those children selected to participate were chosen from applications submitted for consideration.

Wal-Mart has, once again this year, graciously provided the venue for this event and will welcome any media who wish to attend the event. There will be FOP members available for interviews.

The FOP wishes to thank Wal-Mart, and everyone who made contributions, for making this event possible again this year.

Although the event is scheduled from 8-noon, traditionally most all of the children arrive early.
