Newport News, VA – The City of Newport News announces modified hours of operation for Compost/Drop-off facility.

Compost / Drop-off Facility Hours
The Newport Compost/Drop-off Facility, located at 550 Atkinson Way, in Newport News, Virginia will be open to the residents on the following days:
Saturday, September 3, 2011 6:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M
Sunday, September 4, 2011 6:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M
Monday, September 5, 2011 6:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M
Tuesday, September 6, 2011 thru Friday, September 9, 2011 8:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.
Saturday, September 10, 2011 6:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M

We anticipate returning to normal hours of operation (8:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M) effective Monday, September 12, 2011.

NEW storm debris disposal site the for residents of Newport News!
The Waste Management Bethel Landfill, located at 100 North Park Lane, Hampton, VA 23666 is accepting storm debris from the residents of Newport News, VA. Residents must have a valid I.D. with them, in order to use this facility. Operating hours are: Monday thru Friday, 7:00AM – 4:00PM; Saturday 7:00AM – 1:00PM. The Bethel Landfill will be open to the public on Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2011 from 7:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M.

We will continue to update our citizens on the status of the debris removal process through regular press releases, Facebook postings, webpage announcements ( and Cable TV Channel 48 on the status and timing of the clearing operations. We will keep our residents informed of our progress in removing debris as quickly and safely as possible. We ask that you are patient as we move forward with the plan. We will pick up your debris as quickly as we can.
