Community Family Day

A free event filled with exhibits, entertainment, and demonstrations from more than 50 local community resource vendors. The event promotes positive parenting and the development of healthy, safe, nurtured children.

Newport News, 2011 Nov 02

In recognition of National Family Week, the Newport News Parenting Educators’ Group (P.E.G.) is sponsoring the 3rd Annual Community Family Day on Saturday, November 5, 2011. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the South Morrison Family Education Center, 746 Adams Drive, Newport News, VA 23601.

The free event will be filled with exhibits, entertainment, and demonstrations from more than 50 local community resource vendors. The event promotes positive parenting and the development of healthy, safe, nurtured children from birth to eighteen years. The event will also provide parents with information that will help them care for themselves as they build strong families in Newport News.

A non-perishable food drive to benefit the Food Bank of the Virginia Peninsula will also be held and donations are encouraged but not required.

As a part of Keeping Our Kids Safe: Newport News Violence Prevention Network, P.E.G. is working in collaboration with local agencies, organizations, city departments, and other groups to provide information for all families - from single parent homes, individuals who are acting in a parental role, to blended families and others.

National Family Week was developed by the Alliance for Children and Families “to advocate for children, families, and communities so that together we may pursue a vision of a healthy society and strong communities for all children and families.” (Alliance Vision Statement)
