All Newport News city offices will be closed on Friday, December 31 for the New Year’s holiday.

All Newport News public libraries will be closed on Friday, December 31 and Saturday, January 1. Normal operating hours will resume on Sunday, January 2.

Due to the recent snow storm, garbage, recycling and bulk waste collections are two days behind schedule this week. As such, solid waste collections will be made throughout the holiday as follows:

Monday's collections will take place on Wednesday the 29th;
Tuesday's collections will take place on Thursday the 30th;
Wednesday's collections will take place on Friday the 31st (New Year’s Eve); and
Thursday's collections will take place on Saturday, January 1st (New Year's Day)

Residents should place their carts curbside on the revised day and leave them there until collected.

The Citizen’s Drop-Off and Compost Facility (landfill) will be open on Friday, December 31, but closed on January 1.
