Norfolk State University history professor and noted speaker and author Dr. Cassandra Newby-Alexander will discuss her new book in March at Main Street Library.

Titled “Standing on the Precipice of Change: Race, Slavery and Civil War in Hampton Roads, Virginia,” the presentation is 2-3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 19. It is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

The presentation will be based on Dr. Newby-Alexander’s new book, "An African American History of the Civil War in Hampton Roads." It will also include the viewing of photographs from the book as well as other sources. She will be selling copies of her books.
