CITY PARTICIPATING IN “CANS FOR CASH”
Residents encouraged to recycle aluminum cans for this nation-wide challenge

The City of Newport News is seeking residents’ help in recycling aluminum beverage cans as part of a nation-wide Cans For Cash recycling challenge, which runs through October 29th. Newport News will be competing with other localities to win up to $15,000 in award money for recycling the most cans during the challenge and for having the most innovative and collaborative recycling program. The winnings are to be used to support recycling efforts through local education and awareness programs.
Residents with curbside recycling collection are encouraged to place aluminum beverage cans in their recycling containers for bi-weekly collection. Residents without curbside recycling can take aluminum cans to any of the following convenience centers for recycling.
• Hidenwood Fire Station, 12455 Warwick Boulevard
• Lee Hall Fire Station, 13561 Jefferson Avenue
• Briarfield Fire Station, 5844 Marshall Avenue
• Main Street Library parking lot, 110 Main Street
• Oyster Point Fire Station, 685 Oyster Point Road
• Denbigh Compost facility, 550 Atkinson Way
• Bay Disposal, 701 Shields Road
Organizations, schools and businesses can simply recycle aluminum cans in their respective receptacles within their organizations. Organizations with internal recycling collection and tracking programs are asked to report via email to dbaxter@nngov.com by November 5.
