Plain white sections of cake were transformed into small works of art at Pearl Bailey Library on July 23. “The Art of Cake Designing” was a lesson in cake decorating taught by Patricia Jackson, also known as Patti Cake, to a group of 17 adults, as part of the Newport News Public Library System’s Adult Summer Reading Program.

Jackson taught the class how to color icing and the type of tip to use to make different shapes. After the lesson, the attendees were able to try the new techniques on their own piece of cake. Many people decorated with borders, flowers, and words.
