2011 Oct 04

On Saturday, October 29, 2011, the Newport News Police Marine Patrol will partner with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in an effort to promote safe boating.

Members of both agencies will be available from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at the Police Department’s Community Outreach Center located at 10188 Warwick Boulevard to perform boat safety inspections. The Outreach Center is conveniently located on the southern end of Historic Hilton Village. There is no cost for the inspection and those boats meeting all safety requirements will receive a decal indicating they have met all the requirements of the inspection.

Each year there are numerous incidents on the waterways across the country involving serious injury and death many of which could have been prevented if the prescribed safety rules had been followed and the proper safety equipment had been on board. It is the sincere hope of both agencies that boaters on the way to enjoy the area waterways will take the short amount of time required to participate in this free service before heading out on the water.
