Volunteers who participate in a Library focus group on Sept. 19 get bookstore discounts and the chance for a free book. The Newport News Public Library System is looking for volunteers to give their opinions of a proposed new logo and slogan for the Library System. Those who do not use the Library System are especially encouraged to participate.

If you are a Newport News resident who does NOT use the Library System, please sign up at http://tinyurl.com/b-nfocusgroup2. You will be asked to fill out a short survey and attend a focus group meeting at 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19. The meeting will be in the gift area of the Newport News Barnes & Noble. All focus group participants will receive a 10 percent discount on their Barnes & Noble purchases at that time. In addition, six new books from Barnes & Noble and other discounts will be given away as door prizes.

The focus group is open to the first 20 people to sign up at http://tinyurl.com/b-nfocusgroup2.

The new books and discount coupons will be given out at the end of the focus group meeting, and there are no other requirements. Books include a variety of fiction and nonfiction, and include autographed copies of “The Disagreement” by Nick Taylor. Other titles include “Chicken Soup for the Wine Lover’s Soul” and “Dogs: A Guide to Domestic Bliss,” by James Croft.
