A girl from the Civil War came to Pearl Bailey Library in April.
Addy Walker, a courageous 9-year-old determined to be free in 1864, is one of the main characters in the American Girl historical fiction series. She was celebrated with two events at Pearl Bailey Library in April.

The event also included a drawing for a free Addy Walker American Girl doll, a book-signing and American Girl items for sale by Barnes & Noble Booksellers of Newport News. Girls also had the opportunity to prepare for the visit earlier in the month. On April 7, girls made a “proper” hat, then enjoyed an afternoon of tea, lemonade and treats with their dolls. Two mini Addy American Girl dolls were given away free at that event.
The Connie Porter author visit was part of the Newport News Public Library System’s celebration of National Library Week.
