Attention all Newport News residents and city employees: It’s almost time to pick up your 2012 Newport News Ambassador Pass! Ambassador Pass holders receive free, one-time admission to eight city attractions, valid for two adults and two children. Those requesting passes will be asked to show proof of current residency or city employment. Ambassador Passes will be honored at the following two attractions each week throughout the month of January:

January 2-8, 2012
Peninsula SPCA & Petting Zoo
Virginia Living Museum

January 9-15, 2012
The Mariners' Museum
Virginia War Museum

January 16-22, 2012
Endview Plantation
James A. Fields House

January 23-29, 2012
Lee Hall Mansion
Peninsula Fine Arts Center

The passes will be available for pickup from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, Dec. 26, at the Newport News Visitor Center, 13560 Jefferson Ave., at the entrance to Newport News Park. Starting Tuesday, Dec. 27, Ambassador Passes can also be picked up between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from the Parks, Recreation and Tourism office in City Center at Oyster Point, 700 Town Center Drive, Suite 320, and from the Communications & Community Relations office at City Hall, 2400 Washington Ave., 10th floor. Passes will be available at the three locations for the duration of the program, which ends Jan. 29, 2012.

Please note that the offices of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, as well as Communications & Community Relations, will be closed Dec. 30 and Jan. 2, while the Newport News Visitor Center is closed Jan. 1.

The yearly Ambassador Pass program is underwritten by those attractions that typically charge admission. City residents and employees are also encouraged to visit two free attractions – The Newsome House Museum & Cultural Center and the US Army Transportation Museum – while exploring Newport News.

The program is designed to encourage Newport News residents and City of Newport News employees to be a “visitor in your hometown.” The pass offers residents and employees an opportunity to learn more about the wealth of activities available in Newport News so they can share this information with visiting friends and family.

For more information about the 2012 Newport News Ambassador Pass, call the Newport News Visitor Center at 757-886-7777.
