NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – “Silent Library,” a popular MTV game show, came to Pearl Bailey Library on July 11 as 22 teens stacked snack cakes on their foreheads, applied makeup and nail polish while blindfolded and more. The program was part of the Library System’s Teen Summer Reading Program.
Challenges and game rules were based on the MTV game show. Hosted by Demetria Tucker, senior family and youth services librarian, and Sonya Scott, senior information services specialist, the game included more than 10 challenges such as “SpongeBob,” in which players dove face-first into a bucket of ice to retrieve sponges, and “Stuff it,” in which players stuffed marshmallows into a cup using their feet.
“The teens had so much fun, we are going to play something similar to this during Teen Read Week in October,” Scott said.
All players received McDonald’s gift cards. The winning team of six players received gift certificates to Tropical Smoothie.
The Newport News Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program included reading incentives and activities for children, teens and adults, June 20 through July 31. It was supported by the Friends of the Newport News Public Library System, Capt. D’s, Fazoli’s, McDonald’s, Golden Corral, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Shoney’s, and the Library of Virginia.
