Library services now available at new center

Weekday library services offered at new South Morrison Family Education Center

Library services, including job-seeking assistance and computer access, are available five days a week beginning July 1 at the new South Morrison Family Education Center.

Library services are available at the new South Morrison Family Education Center at 746 Adams Drive.

Library services, including job-seeking assistance and computer access, are available five days a week beginning July 1 at the new South Morrison Family Education Center.

Library services are available 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the Computer Lab, Room 9, of the re-purposed elementary school located at 746 Adams Drive in Newport News.

Free public library services provided by the Newport News Public Library System include:

• Apply for a Library card
• Computers with software and Internet access
• Computer classes
• Help with job searches (for adults and youths)
• Help with resumes
• Small business resources
• Virginia Workforce Connection registration
• Peninsula Work Link One Stop Career Center referrals
• Referrals to other job-seeking services (Virginia 211, New Horizons and more)
• Information on FAFSA, grants, scholarships, fellowships and more
• Information on free tax assistance, residential programs, and other services.
• Access to Library databases

Summer Storytimes are offered at 10 a.m. on Thursdays for ages 2-5 through July 26. Other Library services, including books and other materials to borrow, may be added in the future.

Other organizations, programs and services at South Morrison Family Education Center include The Partnership for Youth; Newport News Department of Human Services hosts parenting education, youth development programs, All Stars risk prevention for middle schoolers, the Targeted Outreach Program, a mentor task force, and the Neighborhood Leadership Institute; Newport News Public School’s Alternatives Inc and the Monart program; and The Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Peninsula.
