Each year, the Newport News Fire Department recognizes the heroic acts of citizens and firefighter-medics at the Newport News Fire Department’s Annual Recognition Ceremony. This year, the ceremony will take place on April 14, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center in Newport News.

Several Newport News Firefighter-Medics will receive Medals of Merit for their actions this past year. The staff of a local family medical practice will receive Good Samaritan Awards for their teamwork in helping a patient that had coded outside their facility, and a local nurse will be honored for her humanitarian efforts in assisting a distressed person.

In addition, Firefighter, EMS Provider, and Employee of the Year awards will also be presented.
