Children were dazzled on July 6 at Main Street Library as Lynn Ruehlmann, puppeteer and storyteller, presented aquatic-themed puppet shows, an old-fashioned storytime, and a lesson in sign language and song. The free event was part of the Newport News Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program for children.
Ruehlmann’s performance, “Shimmering Swimmers,” included three puppet shows with characters such as a flamboyant whale, hungry alligator, witty rabbit, strong elephant, and a whale that wished he could live on land.
The performer taught the young audience a song about aquatic life and a brief lesson in American Sign Language.
