Library’s Healthy Families Centers offer toys, early literacy computers for children

Free Centers in Newport News Libraries

Parents of young children can get free information and assistance from Healthy Families Centers located at their local Newport News Library.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. 2009 Jan 28

Parents of young children can get free information and assistance from Healthy Families Centers located at their local libraries. The Centers at Newport News Public Libraries offer educational learning tools and parenting guides to promote healthy home environments.

 

Created in partnership with the Healthy Family Initiative, which works with community organizations to enhance services to families in Newport News, the centers’ focus is on supplying information for parenting healthy children and creating a family environment that helps children reach their full potential.

 

Healthy Families Centers include:

 

-          Educational learning toys and puzzles

-          A collection of parenting books and DVDs

-          Early literacy stations, which are computers that include software specifically for preparing young children to learn to read

 

The Healthy Families Centers are free for library patrons’ use and located in the children’s sections of the Newport News Public Libraries.
