Two Newport News Public Library System staff members have been recognized by City of Newport News employees for their commitment, caring and collaboration.
Demetria Tucker and Sonya Scott have been selected by their fellow city employees to receive the City Ambassador Recognized for Excellence (C.A.R.E.) Award.
Tucker, senior family and youth services librarian, and Scott, senior youth information services specialist, both work at Pearl Bailey Library and were chosen because they reflect the City’s values and philosophy in their day-to-day work.
“Both Demetria and Sonya have developed strong ties to the youth in their community, and they encourage them to excel in school and to give back to the community,” said Izabela M. Cieszynski, director of the Newport News Public Library System. “The work they do has resulted in a mutual respect, the youth for the staff at Bailey and the staff for the youth. This has resulted in many positive youth interactions and has made the library a safer place for the youth to come together.”
Their photos will be added to the online Wall of Fame, and this honor qualifies them for a chance to be selected for the City Manager’s Award. This award is presented to one of those receiving the C.A.R.E. award and is presented at the end of the calendar year.
